Profiles of Change: Michele Siqueiros ’95

Promotional video for Pitzer College using parts of my track, Heist and Fight – along with some custom arrangement ideas.

For the Ladies

BPM 80: Laid-back bluesy guitar groove will have you believing you’re sitting in a smoky jazz club. Guitar solo sets the pace and minimal backing holds the harmony and beat.

String Automation Drawing in Logic

Drawing string automation in Logic is easy. The trick to using this method effectively is using automation CURVES and not automation TRIANGLES. I show the technique being used in the video.
In addition to standard volume automation, some virtual instruments (here I’m using Symphobia) have programmed patches for changing dynamics of the samples using the modulation wheel of your MIDI keyboard (CC7, with volume being controlled by CC11). Using both of those curves at the same time, with automation curves that are very similar but not necessarily identical you will get a professional bowed-string sound of the orchestra. Of course, this only applies for single-note lines because of sample-stacking. That’s another story for another day.
How do you use automation in your string compositions?
