Rami Hattab came over again last week on Thursday to record some songs for his upcoming EP. Since the album is taking longer than usual (that’s because it’s gonna rock!) we decided to quickly put together some stuff for this new small project. CDs will be on sale as soon as the songs are finished being mixed and put to disc. For sale at Rami’s shows and of course, through me.
In the meantime – while he was here – during a break he was jamming in my living room to this song of his, Change. I really liked the way it sounded and told him to immediately go downstairs ’cause we’re gonna record this one! Well, the only thing I got was a demo version of it because we didn’t have time to do the whole thing. The feeling and vibe of the song still come through, though. So here it is – Change, by Rami Hattab.
EDIT – here’s a newly-remixed version with a chilled-out middle 16 for the ladies
My buddy Carsten came over to the studio last week and we finally got my electronic drumkit setup! He’s such an excellent drummer, I just had to get his skills recorded somehow and it finally came to fruition. I had been working a couple hours that morning on a new track with some MIDI drum loops, so I just took them out and had him play instead. It’s such a great groove that I can’t believe we haven’t done this before.
This is our first collaboration together and hopefully the first of many – hence the name, The First Time. Enjoy.
So I spent the weekend recording my friend’s new album coming out hopefully in September! Rami came down from Wiesbaden and we spent two entire days just doing his guitar and vocal tracks. We did manage to get one song fully arranged, mixed, and ready – so here it is!

118 bpm – Dance/dubstep-style track in the style of Swedish House Mafia.
Modern synth sounds with contemporary beat.
Chill-out, dubstep-type track. Lounge feel with solid groove and dubstep bass sounds.
Here’s a pretty cool video of young meets old. Really good melding of the two styles.
So I’ve been a bit inspired by Skrillex lately (Bangarang!) and decided to try my hand at matching the cool-ness of some of his stuff. Thanks to PLUGIN GURU and his Toxic FM8 patches (which really are great) I’ve come up with my first stab at this stuff.
Although I’ve always been influenced by electronic music and the effects they use in making it, I’ve never really tried to recreate anything on my own. Better late than ever!
First installment called Allies.
Here’s a project that I’m supporting through Kickstarter that I may end up doing music work for. Looks to be a very promising and interesting documentary!
Looking forward to working with them. I’ll let you all know if and how it pans out. Check them out here on Kickstarter: THE UNKNOWNS – DOCUMENTARY
Here’s some great trailer music stemming from a collaboration with my twin brother Chuck.
Loud, badass, and EPIC! Great guitar solo courtesy of Chuck Costello.
Dr. Jim Marshall (of Marshall amplification fame) has died. Jim Marshall. While mourning the Guv’nor though, we also salute a legendary man who led a full and truly remarkable life. Jim’s ascent into the history books as ‘the Father of Loud’ and the man responsible for ‘the Sound of Rock’ is a true rags-to-riches tale. [...]
