Although I’ve always been influenced by electronic music and the effects they use in making it, I’ve never really tried to recreate anything on my own. Better late than ever!
First installment called Allies.

Dr. Jim Marshall (of Marshall amplification fame) has died.

Jim Marshall. While mourning the Guv’nor though, we also salute a legendary man who led a full and truly remarkable life.

Jim’s ascent into the history books as ‘the Father of Loud’ and the man responsible for ‘the Sound of Rock’ is a true rags-to-riches tale. Cruelly robbed of his youth by tubercular bones, Jim rose to become one of the four forefathers responsible for creating the tools that allowed rock guitar as we know and love it today to be born. The ground breaking quartet also included the late, great trio of Leo Fender, Les Paul and Seth Lover – together with Jim, they truly are the cornerstones of all things rock.

I’m not a huge fan of Marshall amps, but I recognize their distinct place in the history of music as we know it.

It’s about time we musicians got some official say in carrying instruments on board an aircraft. I always hated that airlines acted so belligerent when it came to storing them on board in the passenger cabin.

Traveling musicians got a big boost from Congress last month with the passage of a sweeping Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill that includes new universal standards for storing instruments in flight. Pending issuance of final regulations, the amended law will, among other things, allow travelers to carry aboard any instrument or related gear that can be safely stored in the cabin, rather than risk it being damaged in the plane’s cargo hold or during baggage handling.

I’ve carried guitars on board before with a mixed experience of having no problems to outright unwillingness to store them somewhere safe; dependent on the airline. Looks like we have a leg to stand on now!
